Our Story

The name I Love Samurai™ was born in Sasebo, Japan — the seaside town my wife and I now call home. In Japanese, the Kanji for “Sasebo” is often said to resemble the words I, Love, and Samurai. A charming coincidence, maybe — but one that carries far deeper meaning for us.

As I settled into life in Japan, I began to study the local history — the legacy of the Matsuura clan, the samurai lords who once ruled this region. I watched films like Shogun and The Last Samurai, then walked the quiet streets and coastal paths where real warriors once trained. Their code — Bushidō, the way of the warrior — began to echo in everything around me.

And then I started to see it everywhere:
In the young Navy sailor saying goodbye to his family.
In the Marine standing guard through the rain.
In the spouses.

In the kids growing up between worlds.
Strength. Duty. Honor. Service. Love.

That’s samurai spirit.

I Love Samurai™ was created to celebrate that spirit — not as a relic of the past, but as a living way of life. Our styles honor the quiet courage of those who serve, support, and sacrifice. The teachers and the warriors. The families and the dreamers. The ones who do their duty without fanfare.

Because Bushidō isn’t just about battle. It’s about purpose.
It’s about living with integrity, humility, and heart.
It’s about waking up each day ready to give more than you take.

That’s the way of the warrior.
That’s the way of life.
That’s I Love Samurai™.
